Dear Friends,

Everyone likes to celebrate anniversaries, and we Franciscans can celebrate with the best!!  The New Year ushered in the 8th centenary of our way of life.  Most historians agree that St. Francis of Assisi just wanted to live a simple gospel life caring for the needy.  A small group initially joined him in his quest and became such a positive model that a few short years later, when Francis passed into eternal life, there were already 5,000 who had embraced his challenging lifestyle.

Our Franciscan mission continues today as it began, “animated by the spirit of closeness to the people, insertion in a local context, and solidarity with the poor…Always and everywhere the Franciscans have worked for those who are in greatest need, the marginalized, those rejected by society, and those suffering from various illnesses, the lepers of yesterday and today”.  We’ve also grown to a group of about 20,000 throughout the world, trying to be an effective bearer of the Gospel message.

Our Province of the Sacred Heart has 245 friars in its membership, 100 of whom are retired because of health and/or age.  Can 145 of us priests and brothers really make a difference in the lives of people in need?  You bet we can!  With your prayer and financial support, together we can touch the lives of so many more of God’s Poor!

As we attempt to reach out to the marginalized, the homeless, the poor who will always be with us, know that YOU are our greatest blessing.  Our small group of Franciscans recognizes YOU as our major partner in making the Gospel come alive for those who need to hear and experience the Good News.

We are God’s People…God’s hands, feet and eyes in today’s world.  We are all challenged to do our part to make a difference in people’s lives.  Joining forces we are one formidable presence of Goodness!

If we give generously of what God has given us, I believe without a doubt that “Together we can do much with seemingly very little and still have more to share.

Know that we Franciscans are very appreciative and thankful for you continuing financial and prayerful support of our ministries.  Be assured that God will not be out-done in generosity returned to you when you give from the heart to the least of our brothers and sisters.

Know that you remain in our prayers.  Peace and all good things to you and your family!

Sincerely,

Fr. Bob Sieg, OFM

Director of Development

If we resolve to do the best we can with what we have for the glory of God and the betterment of others, we’ll participate in miracles large and small.  (Loaves and Fishes)
